Choosing The Alternatives To Cable Television

Television is consuming the lives of Americans. After a long day at work, most people want to relax and enjoy what’s left of their day. Unfortunately, watching hours of uninterrupted television has become the norm. Television has been linked to obesity and a contributing factor to many preventive diseases such as Diabetes. Like many things, television itself isn’t bad. When you have too much of anything is when the problems occur.

Alternatives to Television

Exercising is a great way to get fit and forget about the tube.Never heard of this before? Get up to speed here. It doesn’t have to be standard exercises either. Grab a partner and take a stroll in the neighborhood for 30 min a day to relieve stress and to clear your mind. A couple of minutes each day of walking will do wonders for you both physically and mentally.

Like to boogie boogie woogie? Well get up and dance! Grab an Ipod with your favorite songs, wait until everyone is asleep, and dance until your heart is content. There are also programs on t.v. that play songs 24 hours from rock to hip-hop; the choices are limitless.

Writing is my preference after walking. I prefer to express myself orally but when there is no one around to speak to, I like to put my thoughts on paper instead. Expressing what you feel inside can be very therapeutic and we need that sometimes.

Studies have shown that preparing meals ahead of time is healthier than eating the first thing you see.Cooking doesn’t have to be complex, there are simple meal ideas on the web that you can have an adult assist you with. Remember to incorporate fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. When we put time into preparing our meals, we can pay more attention to what we put in our meals as opposed to eating pre- packaged foods that have already been prepared. The list above are a few examples of fun things to do besides watching t.v. but not the only things. Find what fits you best and run with it- literally!
